Water

When I briefly searched the benefits of drinking enough water, I found what looks to be a reliable source of information:  https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/water/art-20044256

Some highlights:

  • Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired.
  • Lubricates and cushions joints
  • Gets rid of wastes through urination, perspiration and bowel movements
  • No. You don’t need to rely only on water to meet your fluid needs. What you eat also provides a significant portion. For example, many fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon and spinach, are almost 100% water by weight.
  • Drinking too much water is rarely a problem for healthy, well-nourished adults. Athletes occasionally may drink too much water in an attempt to prevent dehydration during long or intense exercise. When you drink too much water, your kidneys can’t get rid of the excess water. The sodium content of your blood becomes diluted. This is called hyponatremia and it can be life-threatening.
  • About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women

I was surprised about the 11.5 cups and was glad to consider that some the water can come from fruits. 64 oz. was feeling like a lot, but I guess the recommendation is more like 90 oz. now.

We’re snowed in here…well, if we really had to we could get somewhere. I see that the snow plows are out. Sports are cancelled though, so it’s going to be a relaxing Saturday. I feel low level freaked out when I think about a whole day without a plan. Relaxing isn’t that relaxing for me. I have been running everyday again and that’s really helped.

When I go through a stretch of not being in shape with exercise and nutrition, it’s always so weird when I finally get back to it. The feeling is like falling asleep in chair, when you didn’t expect to…wondering, “Whoa, what?! How long have I been out?!!!”

Anyway. Good to be back!

Love,
